The Caricature Convention (big deal for me) is Coming again Oct 1st in Orlando and I'm very very excited. About 400 (?) Caricaturists from around the world compete against each other for a week! Caricature bigshots like Krueger, Hirschfeld, Sergio Aragones and some fancy character designers and more Mad Mag artists have been been competitors at previous conventions!
The best one wins the Golden Nosey Trophy
!
There's a bunch of categories like, best likeness, most exaggerated, Funniest and other fun stuff.
In the spring, I beat the record at Bruce Blitz's stand for most caricatures drawn in a day, and I hope to bring that skill with me for the speed competition.
ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy!
Here's one of my live Caricatures I did Last year at the Vegas Con of the lovely Lar!
With this Lar, I won "Best Color Technique" 2nd place.
I wouldn't miss it! Info: www.Caricature.org
(I want my LA cartoonist friends to join me! John said he doesn't understand why people want to torture each other...ha!)
Woah
One of the ways to continue with an interest for a lifetime is to take a break from one craft and do something else for a while. Create a new identity for yourself throughout the day, even. I'm not always a cartoonist, i'm only one when i'm drawing. I think a lot of artists use it as their entire identity! and if they fail at their craft.... they give up completely because the failure is too overwelming and destroys unrelated parts of their ego.
Here are products of the days where I was a costume designer! (just for myself) I created these costumes from scratch! and i'm proud of them! I "Draped" these costumes, meaning i made them up from my head and i sewed them myself. self taught (learned from internet and books) I made a couple other costumes, too.

Live Drawings at John K's "when cartoons were cartoony" show
John's show was enlightening and superiorly entertaining. Those old cartoons were hilariously wacky! Cartoony cartoons aren't made anymore, but maybe some of us can try and squeeze some funny drawings into animation again.
Eddie, John and I did caricatures and drawings for everybody. Here's some of mine:

I was lucky enough to draw caricatures beside Eddie Fitzgerald! here's a side by side comparison of what we saw in this fellow.
I see an eager 10 year old boy in steve.
this John likes hotdogs.
It was crazy fun last night! Don't you wish you came now? and got a free caricature?
