Today Jack Black's Band, Tenacious D, released the music video that I worked on!
Enjoy:
Classico
This is my favorite watercolor background that I painted. I bet you didn't know I was a painter! Color is my other passion, next to caricature.
Check out John K's post on it too:

The Tenacious D website offers this cool desktop background, with swooning bunny with quite a keen resemblence to the beautiful Katie Rice!

I love these so much, I can't really express it well enough in words.
I love your colours... even though I know it's annoying when people say stuff like this, I'd like to know more about your watercolour technique/theories. And anything about colour in general, I'd lap it up.
Clever Marlo... I am lucky to know you.
That is a sweet bacgkroudn, it's so warm. I see a blend of your style, Nick Cross, and John. It's like a colour version of the zombie backgrounds in The Henpecked Duck.
I want to watch you paint- iffn' you'd let me! :)
That painting is beautiful Marlo!! The two painting you did in this video stand out so much. I cannot wait to see more in this reguard. You definately achieved that Dedini like quality to your watercolors, bravo!!!
Meathaus has a link to that video, it is hilarious, a rock and roll mind fuck! I love the shading on the elephant and the floating eyes on the ghostly figures in the background
teeeeeeeeeach me pleeeeeeeeeeeease
marlos shit is the shit motherfucker
great work marlo.very exciting stuff!
Set as wallpaper - DONE!
Marlo - what kinds of watercolors and paper did you use for this? The richness is superb.
I love that Goofy-style hat, the background is great, you're great, everything is great!
Great paintings. Very funny and classy
Fantastic stuff per usual. The video was great... but I wanted more!
Marlo, FYI:
Your "Kristen's Sketchblog" link takes me to Kali's blog.
Very Cool....They all look so happy except for the elephant, That's one pissed-off pachyderm.
You continue to show your versitility!!! very impressive!
yes! i just found my new desktop background! hope you don't mind Marlo. Awesome!!!
Wow, you get to paint watercolour at work? I'm jealous!
too cool! Way to go Marlo!
Wow! That is a great painting! Did you do anymore from the video? Can you post them?
You Lucky Bitch, sorry I'm sure you aint a bitch but awesome!!!
I love this steel....
wow this background is PISS PANTS COOL!!! =D hehe .... did you use actual watercolours or the watercolour tool in painter??? ... and john drew this right???
Lame lyrics, cheesy immature song, great animaton.
Cool!
hey, I have a question for you!! Do you get to keep the originals? I had a legendary artist (f.frazetta) tell me that "it's a fool who sells their originals" He told me that he insisted that all originals were returned to him after printing was complete! Please tell me you KEPT this!!!
INteresting! well, the original might belong to John, I'm not sure. But why wouldn't he sell his originals?? everyone needs money!
He didnt sell the paintings, He explained that he sold the rights to "COPY" and also use his images for pre-determined run of book covers and such. He didnt like the idea of his paintings hanging in the home of some dopey exec. After the publishing rights were met, He was free to Sell his images on posters and books of his own! He keeps all his original paintings in a museum in Marshalls Creek, PA "poconos". Frank and his wife operate the museum on their estate. He said that all his works were too close to his heart to give up at any price.
I am so jealous! You do such wonderful work too! Arrrggghhh back to the drawing board for me :)
Don't forget warm agains cool. It's nice, but a lot of warm brown, I'd love to see some cool green complements.
>Don't forget warm agains cool. It's >nice, but a lot of warm brown, I'd >love to see some cool green >complements.
While it would've been cool to add green to this bg, it would make more sense if it was a standalone piece. There are some complimentary colors on here already (ie on some of the animals clothing but mixed in w/ enough reds to blend more) at least from what I can see on the pic but adding cools would've distracted from the main foreground characters in the animation. I'd say it was a smart move in this case since the painting was meant to be a backdrop to that particular scene therefore enhancing the experience of the overall cartoon. Good design and color overall.
dude - seriously cool - MORE!
Wow, your talent is great! Very nice blog and very crazy art!
i've been sort of out of it with cartoons-- i just stumbled upon your work for the first time. insane draws! the classico video has kind of a indian cartoon feel to it--with the rich color and organic shapes.
I don't know much about art but I know I love the "D" and I love your work!! Great Job!!!!
