loose doodles

Here's a very small segment of my "extra fun" work, which is more about just laying something out really fast for an instant thrill usually on scrap or sketchbook paper. What kinds of stuff do you draw just for mindless entertainment or on the phone?

My mindless drawings look like they were drawn by someone without a mind. And they are covered with pizza slime.

Yours are real.

Good lord, I need to get more mindless. Stupid mind. Minds are overrated.

Marlo said...

Thanks jenny. I always wanted to try acid because it made robert crumb's work weird, but I'm scared of that shit.

John, pizza slime is part of the charm

Marlo said...

chloe, minds are kinda overrated, i agree

Mine usually contain at least two Eddie's and ugly pretty things with rubber arms and tongues!

Your phone doodles are the fanciest ones I've ever seen!

I am currently filling a sketchbook with drawings of my neighborhood and surrounding community. Many ho-hum, mundane subject matter, but it at least loosens me up for something more refined. All the sketches are done directly in ink (usually brush pen) and no correction fluid. I also limit myself to around 20 minutes or less for each drawing.

Your "mindless doodles" look better than most people's finished work!

Those are great!

Usually I doodle during meetings at work. Feel free to check em out and let me know what you think, they're at my blog:

My mindless drawings are usually smarmy.
Wait...All my drawings are smarmy.

Awesome stuff! Those are quick phone doodles?? They look better than finished drawings by 99% of humanity. I'm really happy that you're updating the blog again, with such amazing artwork. I really missed the daily dose of fresh Marlo.
Hey, I just tried to make a caricature of you. Take a look at my blog.

thanks again for all the nice compliments and crap

uh, these are some of my better doodles obviously, i'm not going to post the really awful crappy ones-where i dont finish drawing a face or something--- although i think crappy ones are funny too in their own right

I'll start answering specific or personal questions on people's blogs in a reply message....

Oops, sorry, Marlo. I meant to include a comment about your sketches in my earlier post. Nice work! Sorry about forgetting to do that! Lots of energy in your work!

You've got the best line I've ever seen. You destroy literally every other cartoonist on the blogosphere with that line.

ha ha, I like John's answer! I share those sentiments for my random doodles :)

I love all your drawings though Marlo. Your use of the line is always inspiring and your sense of design and character are top-notch.

Nothing approaching this good, I'll tell you that. *sobs*

Best phone doodles I've ever seen are Johnnie's, Eddie's Lynne Naylor's and now--yours.
I'm sure there are many others that are spectacular, but those are the only ones I've seen. Eddie I've spied doing tremendous doodles on the phone at work, and I'd either ask outright for one or try to steal them-but he was terribly greedy, borderline nasty about it(yes, Eddie, you were!) and insisted on keeping all of them. Oh well. John on the other hand is very generous with the scrap. Bless him!
End of my little story.

Your doodles are amazing!!!
I love the bunny girl in the first drawing! She is hot!
What kind of pencils do you use to draw the outlines?

I draw every crazy idea I have in my sketchbooks, I have the most ideas when I hear music. You can see it on my blog!XD

Marlo, you are totally radical.

Nice stuff, Marlo!

I guess my mindless entertainment isn't so mindless.
These days I can't seem to doodle unless I have some sort of reference, whether it's a gossip rag or some big nosed goof sitting in front of me!

I need to let the doodles locked in my imagination out!
